Actress Robin Wright recently got candid about her experience starring in the 2017 film Wonder Woman.

She explained all the hard work and dedication that allowed her to adequately transform into General Antiope for the movie. It turns out, there was a lot of training and strict dieting involved.

“We all trained weeks before we started shooting every day of the week. We went to weight training, and the diet was insane,” she said.

“We had to ingest like 3,500 calories of food a day, so you’re constantly doing smoothies in between your three meals. We had martial arts training and horse training, being able to ride a horse and pull a bow and arrow. It was full on.”

Her smoothies before, during, and between filming often consisted of “raw oats . . . with avocado, whole milk and weight-gain powder.”

The intense training and dieting were not only intended to give Robin Wright the physical attributes of a warrior, but to prepare her for the strength and fighting skills necessary to play General Antiope.

It was thanks to the latter that Wright successfully choreographed many of the combat moves in the film herself, including sword fighting. She was also able to accurately fire bows, independently ride on horseback, and wear heavy armor for long periods during shoots, without merely relying on a stunt double.

While Robin Wright continues to lead a jam-packed work life as an actress and producer and maintains a great physique for her age, she makes an honest confession.

“I was in the best shape of my life, and I turned 50 on that movie. I was like, god – I’ll never be in that kind of shape again. It was amazing.”
