Whoopi Goldberg recently addressed Jimmy Kimmel’s cancellation from ABC, a move that was met with controversy.

It was announced last week that Kimmel’s late-night show would be discontinued from ABC over comments he made surrounding Charlie Kirk’s death.

“The Maga Gang [is] desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it,” Kimmel said.

After making his contentious comments on the matter, he was promptly kicked from ABC.

Whoopi Goldberg chimed in on a Monday episode of The View with her thoughts.

“Now look. Did y’all really think we weren’t going to talk about Jimmy Kimmel,” she said. “I mean, have you watched the show over the last 29 seasons? So you know, no one silences us.”

“When the news broke last week about Jimmy Kimmel’s suspension, we took a breath to see if Jimmy was going to say anything about it first. We did the same thing with Stephen Colbert. Then our show was on tape on Friday, but we are live here today, and we’re getting into it now.”

Whoopi then expressed how taking Kimmel off the air was a breach of his freedom of speech.

“To be clear, you cannot like a show and it can go off the air, someone can say something they shouldn’t and get taken off the air, but the government cannot apply pressure to force someone to be silenced.”

Singer and actress Olivia Rodrigo also went public about Kimmel, expressing similar beliefs to Whoopi.
