A 14-year-old girl has died in Mexico following a breast enlargement surgery.

Paloma Nicole Arellano Escobedo passed away in a Durango hospital on Saturday, just a week after receiving the procedure.

According to Escobedo’s death certificate, her passing was due to a respiratory illness. However, her father, Carlos Arellano, is asking for the cause of death to be reconsidered, believing that the breast implant surgery is to blame.

“Her death certificate falsely stated ‘illness’ as the cause of death in an attempt to cover up the truth,” he said. “They gave it to us right away. I don’t know how they did it so quickly.”

The 14-year-old received breast implant surgery just a week before her passing

It wasn’t until Escobedo’s funeral that Arellano learned that his daughter had received the unauthorized surgery.

Initially, he thought her post-surgery complications were due to something else.

“I thought she had gotten COVID-19 on her trip to the mountains,” the father said. Escobedo’s mother also claimed that their daughter tested positive for the virus.

Within days, Arellano learned that his daughter was in critical condition. She was placed in an induced coma in the hospital after suffering from respiratory arrest and brain swelling.

Arellano later discovered that Escobedo’s mother consented for their daughter’s breast implant surgery, which he had no prior knowledge of.

According to Diana Zuckerman, PhD, “Studies by implant manufacturers report that most women have at least one serious complication within the first 3 years, including infection, hematomas and seromas, capsular contracture (a sometimes painful hardening of the breasts), loss of nipple sensation, and hypertrophic scarring.”

The father is demanding justice for his daughter.

“I demand that all those responsible be investigated,” Arellano said.
